The technology for harnessing solar energy for thermal energy is called solar thermal energy. Basically this thermal energy is heat.
There are different collectors which are classified into three types-
· low- temperature collectors
· medium- temperature collectors
· high temperature collectors
Flat plates which are used to heat swimming pool are called as low temperature collectors.
Medium-temperature flat plates are used for residential and commercial use. These plates are used for heating water and air.
High-temperature collectors are used for electric power production by using mirrors to concentrate sunlight.
Solar thermal is more efficient than solar panel. A number of solar power projects are to be planted which are underway. This technology of conversion has been known for more than a century.
